A Princess of Wind and Waves
Isla may be a mermaid princess, but she’s never felt at home in her undersea kingdom. Instead she dreams of the day her people can return to the surface – and the boy whose life she once saved. But while Isla foresees danger for her people beneath the ocean, she has no concept of the dark forces working to keep her people submerged.
About the Author:
Melanie Cellier grew up on a staple diet of books, books and more books. And although she got older, she never stopped loving children’s and young adult novels. She always wanted to write one herself, but it took three careers and three different continents before she actually managed it.
While it has been nice to enjoy the stories in dystopian books, I found myself some what missing the easiness of fairy tales. I decided that instead of stopping to read either genre that I would continue reading both. This way I can read different depending on my mood. Little did I know that I would end up reading about seven books at once :). Anywho let’s get to my review of the beauty.
Reading this book was not easy. After reading a few of Cellier’s books that I did not enjoy, I found it hard to open this book with new eyes. I know that I have been bad about reviewing her books, but hopefully, within the next few months, you will see what I mean. When I opened the book, I was not truly able to enjoy this book until Isla was on land. The whole under the sea part for me was hard to understand. The thing is Mermaid retellings are normally a miss for me. I have never cared much for them, but this book was able to slightly change my mind.
Getting to meet Isla was unlike the other characters in Cellier’s books. Most of them I have been able to connect right away despite if I like the book, but this one was different. I feel that I should probably re-read this book someday so that I can see if there is truly only one thing I connect with her.
“When you’re related to Isla, you get used to strange very quickly,”
A Princess of Wind and Wave
The only reason I connect with Isla is because my family members say the same thing about me. I do a lot of strange things and say weird things, but that does not mean that the love me any less.
