An Ocean of Grace
A collection of daily devotions and prayers by great Christian writers from throughout church history, including Augustine, Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, Catherine Parr, and Martin Luther.
Their time-tested words continue to paint a compelling portrait of Christ’s death and resurrection, and will encourage and inspire readers as much today as they did when they were first written.
Each daily reading has been selected, edited, and introduced by Tim Chester to make these treasures accessible to every reader. They will help you reflect on Jesus in the run-up to Easter. Ideal to start at the beginning of Lent.

Review:
The idea of reading a devotional filled with words from theologians of the past had never crossed my mind before. Many theologians from the past have often been forgotten by my generation. We know somewhat of who they were, but we know nothing of what they had to say. An Ocean of Grace changed my perspective on these voices from the past. Hearing what each had to say really healed orientate my heart.
From the second day, I was already captivated by the words from the past. On the second day, I felt myself hide my own sins from myself. When Chester asked,
Are you the worst sinner you know?

I felt myself saying, “Yes,” but in the back of my mind I felt myself comparing myself to the sin of those around me. So often I strive to be like Paul and say to everyone that I am the outmost sinner, but my actions chose to say otherwise. After reading Chester’s words, I went on to read Catherine Parr’s words. Boy, was I not ready to hear what she was about to say. Now while I would rather give away what she was going to say, I will leave it to you, the readers of this blog, to get the book and reorientate your heart.
While I enjoyed hearing from the Theologians from the past, I wish I could’ve heard more of what Chester had on each subject. He was amazing at introducing the Theologian of the day, but I feel as though I have not truly seen his work. He was able to collect together main great voices from the past and turn them into an amazing book. I could have never done anything like this. The way that it all flowed perfectly together was unlike any other book that I have read, let alone a devotional. The only thing that I would ask is that Chester add a healthy balance of his words and the voices of the past.
I received this book and a giveaway copy in exchange for my honest review.
