The Dark King’s Curse – Blog Tour

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Summary

A darkness seems to hang over the lands of Conall, slowly but surely growing in strength with each passing year.

This all comes to a head when the twelve daughters of King Muir begin to disappear each night. No one will admit where they go, and the only clue is their shoes; new in the evening, tattered and torn by morning.

When no one can stop the disappearances, Ailsa –lady-in-waiting to the youngest princess– volunteers to try and solve the mystery; or else she and her peers will pay the consequences for failing to watch over their charges.

Armed with nothing but her gift of Fae-sight, Ailsa ventures forth on a quest to free her lady and the other princesses. With the help of a grumpy, glamoured gardener, a cursed faerie cat, and the mysterious Lord of Autumn, she may discover both the secrets and the truth behind the Dark King that lies at the root of the curse.

Review

The Dark Kings Curse is the third book written by Wyn Estelle Owens. I have not had a chance to read her other books but I added each book onto my ever-growing reading list. The Dark Kings Curse was a great take on mystery, twist, and Fae’s. Normally, I am not one to go for a fairy tale but the mystery that surrounded the summary hooked me and left me checking my email every day to see when I would get my advance copy to review.

The story is filled with twists and turns that leave you guessing as to what is going to happen. I love the imagery in Owens’ books. The amazing way that you can picture each character in your mind. I love when authors give such a detailed description that I do not even feel like I am reading a book, but rather watching everything play out in front of me. The way that Owens describes Ailsa’s eyes gives me a perfect picture. I really enjoyed how each character was introduced. They were not friends at first, they fought and kept secrets from each other, but later they grew to be friends.

Due to when I received this book, I have not been able to give a more in-depth review as I love to do. Though this did not stop me from reading each page carefully. The Dark King’s Curse is not perfect and it does have its faults but I am still excited to review it. I felt like this book was written for a younger audience and is more for children around the ages of 10 and up. I also struggled with the way the characters talked. Often times I had to read out loud what was said to get the meaning. Despite, these minor issues I enjoyed this take on a mystery fairy tale.
