Dare – The Blades of Acktar
A Blade must never fail a mission or show weakness.
Third Blade Leith Torren has never failed a mission. His thirty-four marks to prove his loyalty to King Respen. Leith has never questioned the King until he is shot with and arrow and left out to die in the middle of a blizzard.
Despite all of this, Leith is able to make his way to shelter. Little did he know that the people behind the door is the very people whose family he destroyed on a frightful night.
Their illegal faith and ties to the Resistance once again put them at risk once again. Will they risk their family again or will they leave him to die?
Leith’s survival depends on never failing, but what is the point of surviving but never being free? Will he dare to resist Respen and his ruthless Blades or will he once again devastate Renna and Brandi?
About the Author:
Tricia Mingerink is in her twenty’s. She is loves reading, writing, and horseback riding. When she is not writing or reading, she will be out pursuing adventures all over the world. She has written two book series called The Blades of Acktar and Beyond the Tales. Both book series will want you longer for more reading material to read.
Dare was such a whirlwind of adventure wrapped up in such a beautifully written book that made this book my favorite book until I discovered that this book was apart of a series. Then I realized that picking a book out of this series would be ridiculously hard. The was that Dare is written leaves you longing to read all of the books until you suffer from a book withdraw because you have completed the whole series. I found out about these books around the end of 2018, early 2019, though it feels like I have been reading these books for years. There is really nothing that I struggled with within this book. It travels at the perfect pace for it being an action-packed book. The characters are to die for, they are so well developed that you feel as though they are you know them as a friend.
The way the Third Blade Leith Torren is introduced starts the book with a thrill-seeking adventure of life or death. The way that Brandi puts her life on the line to tell Leith about the stories of Daniel really shows her childlike faith. She is willing to put her life on the line to tell Leith about her faith. It reminds me of how as a kid I would bring my little NIV Bible and talk to whoever I could about the gospel. Renna is such a beautifully written young lady. The way that she is able to help Leith despite the fact that he killed her parents shows how we as Christians are supposed to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute you. The word of the Lord pours out of each page in a way that has you wanting to continue to read these books.
“He’d helped kill her parents. Renna rocked back on her heels as the Blade returned to sleep. How was she going to do this? She was supposed to love her enemies, but surely he was exempt.”

“God works all things for the good of His people. That good isn’t necessarily what we would call our physical good. God looks at our spiritual good—our trust, faith, and love in and for Him—and works the things in our life toward that good. So maybe God would spare me but maybe not. Either way, He’d give me the strength and grace I’d need.”

“What if the world had been created with just a few commands? That kind of power was overwhelming. It made the power that King Respen wielded over Acktar seem…small. Like an ant declaring absolute rule over his tiny anthill without realizing that he could be crushed in a single footstep.”
