Nova McBee,  Simulated

Simulated

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Jo Rivers, safely back in Seattle, asks the same question daily—how does a math genius go from taking down international criminals and saving the world economy to living a normal teenage life? The only answer she can come up with is—she doesn’t.

With an overprotective father on her back and Kai on the other side of the world, Jo accepts an offer from Prodigy Stealth Solutions (PSS), who may have found a way to get her gift back. Using a newly developed technology, PSS tries a simulation process on Jo to restore her abilities, but during the attempt, PSS is hacked and a blacklist file containing some of PSS’s most sensitive secrets is stolen. Meanwhile, a mysterious caller who seems to know more than he should delivers a warning to Jo about Kai, who then goes missing.

Despite her father’s concerns, Jo sets off on a risky trip to Tunisia with a PSS team of teen prodigies to find an urgently needed solution for PSS and locate Kai. All the while, Jo has to trust the mysterious informant who, frighteningly, is like no one she has ever met before.

Simulated is the second book in the Calculated book series. Simulated is an action-packed book that will keep you on edge during the whole book. It is full of adventure, cliffhangers, and all you could hope for in a book about a math prodigy who has lost her gift. With series is often is hard to keep your audience entertained as each book progressives. This often is because it is hard to live up to your first book, but I think that McBee was perfectly able to continue Jo Rivers’s story without skipping a beat.

In this story, we are introduced to the Coral Hacker, which for the main of you might not have been your favorite character, but for me, I slowly fell in love with this character. I am trying to be as vague as I can with this character, but honestly, it is so hard! This character was one that I felt, in the beginning, would either make the story or break it. There was so much to the Coral Hacker’s story that I was afraid that it would take over Jo’s story, but it didn’t. Instead, this character forever changed the way that I thought about Jo. I love when a character does that! It makes the story so much better!

I think what I enjoy best is the memories that fill the story. I love how we are able to flashback to Jo’s past to better understand what happened that forever changed her life. I loved how in this book we got to see Jo’s childhood. We saw the child that grew into the woman we are now reading about it. It takes a lot of skill to be able to perfectly execute this and McBee did it without any trouble. It almost went perfectly together. As a part of Jo’s past came up we were quickly transported back in time to see what all happened. I love getting to see a different side of Jo.

I was jumping for joy when I ended this story. Well jumping for joy when I saw the special announcement at the end of this book. I was in no way happy that I finished this book. Honestly, I was sad because this story was so amazing. I lost track of the time I spent reading this. Unlike the first book, I chose to take my time reading through this story. Mainly because I wanted to enjoy the fact that I was able to once again travel alongside Jo Rivers. Now that I finished her story, I do not know what to do with myself. I know that there is plenty of other books that are out there, but it is so hard to find action-packed books like this one.

I received this book in exchanged for my honest review. My thoughts are my own and not paid for.
